How to Get Social on Facebook and Grow Your Reach

by | Digital Marketing, Relationship, Tech Tools

Are you actually being social on Facebook?

Many business owners seem to forget about the “social” part of social media. A huge part of what makes social media work is actually being social.

It’s not enough to create your personal page, and business page and then disappear just waiting for people to magically find you and buy stuff from you.

While that may sound like a great idea, it just doesn’t actually work. Marketing your business is about building relationships with prospective and current customers.

And what makes a good, strong relationship? Engagement and communication between the two sides. You just sitting back and waiting for others to engage you is the opposite of interacting and communicating.

Plan Your Daily Posts

Consistency is the primary key to growing your social media audience, and that means making daily posts to your personal page, business page, and in your prospective customer group if you have one.

These daily posts should all be written a bit differently to avoid getting labeled by Facebook as a “spammer,” but they should certainly have a similar theme or message.

Think About Your Target Market

Who is your ideal customer? When do they visit Facebook –  during the day or at night? Do they belong to any groups? Think about your client avatar, your ideal customer and plan your daily postings accordingly.

What does she need help with? Do you have any advice to help her? Understanding her wants and needs will help you in reaching her on social media.

Leave Comments and Engage to Start Conversations

Instead of just “liking” posts on someone’s page, go and make a comment or ask a question to start a conversation. You can do this in a group, on your page or someone else’s page, or a personal page.

Be authentic when deciding what to say and if a conversation starts, consider requesting to be the person’s friend.

Pay Attention to Those Who Comments and Like Your Posts

When someone like or leaves a comment on one of your posts, click to their personal page, and decide if this person is in your target audience or if they could be an advocate for your business.

If so, you can send them a Friend Request and start following them.

Share Free Advice

Sharing your knowledge is especially true in Facebook groups when other members ask a question or need help to solve a problem.

If you can help them, give your advice freely instead of just adding a link to your product or service (this is usually frowned upon and could be against group rules, check each group’s guidelines).

You don’t’ need to give away all your secrets, but sharing your expertise is a simple way to show people in the group that you care about helping others, and you know what you’re talking about.

Create Live Videos and  Encourage Others to Share it

Video is amazing when it comes to reaching your audience and developing relationships quickly, so take advantage of using Facebook Live.

Simply plan out what you want to talk about (like an overview of your business or services, or a sneak peek at your book or program, or the answer some common questions your clients have).

Create a little buzz around the videos and let your followers know when you’re going live and encourage them to share the time with their friends.

These days your live video has a better chance of being seen organically than regular text or image posts. If viewers like what they hear, and they are attracted to how you present, they can do a quick search and follow you online.

You can be creative and have fun when it comes to finding new followers on Facebook.

Remember to continue to nurture the relationship with your new friends, for you never know who may become your next best client.

Here’s to working smarter to create a business and life you LOVE!
