Embrace Change: How to Make Change Work For You
For business owners, change is a constant theme. So why do we all fear it so much? We often see any type of change as something negative or even risky. We fail to realize it is also a great opportunity. In fact, there can be no growth without change.
Why You Need to Embrace Change
We grow through facing challenges and figuring out how to handle them. Whether change brings short-term positive or negative effects, each change is only a necessary step in our development in the long term.
In addition to the opportunities change offers, it also presents new experiences and a challenge to your current skillset. If you want to be successful in your business, you must be flexible and adaptable, which is easier said than done. Negative limiting beliefs that we all have tell you this change is a negative thing because it shifts you away from the status quo.
How you meet change and these obstacles can determine how you meet the next ones. You are constantly adding to your list of successes you can draw on for motivation when you face the next challenge.
Embracing change and seeing challenges as something positive is essential for cultivating a success mindset. And the more you work on your success mindset, the better equipped you’ll be for new little disasters, obstacles and issues.
There are some strategies you can use to help you make this shift to embracing change. Here are five ways you can use change to work toward your success.
1. Make a List of Your Successes and Positive Changes
Go back over the big changes you’ve faced in the past few years. Look at how they have impacted you. I’m sure you’ll find a few that you wish would never have happened. But most likely, the majority of them ended up actually benefiting you in some way in the long term.
Write down a list of positive results from the changes you’ve experienced. Refer to this list whenever you face a new challenge you’re not sure you can overcome.
2.Predict and Prepare
Sudden unexpected change can be shocking. So, take a proactive approach and try to get ahead of any potential challenges you may face. Set aside time regularly to strategize and prepare for things that may come up.
Consider things that might happen and loosely develop a plan to deal with each situation. Then when a big change happens (and it will), even if it’s something negative, you will be able to face it feeling prepared and confident that you can manage it.
3.Banish Your Inner Critic
Amazing things will happen if you can get rid of negative self-talk and limiting beliefs that destroy your confidence. We each have the same jerky inner critic who tells us all the things we can’t do. When you’re facing a sudden challenge, it’s a perfect time for your inner critic to come along and derail your progress.
Letting the inner critic take over is a bad habit, and like any other habit, you can break it and replace it with a new one. First, learn to recognize when your inner critic sneaks in. Create some positive strategies, like affirmations, that you can use to combat it and learn to rephrase your negative thoughts into positive ones.
4.Surround Yourself with Positive People
How we feel about changes in our business and life is a large part of our overall mindset. The way we think influences the thoughts of others, and their thinking does the same to us. So by surrounding yourself with people who are growth and success-minded and approach change positively, you can draw on their positivity as motivation whenever you need it.
5. Focus on the Big Picture
After all, is said and done, change is just a bump in a. long road. It means even if you have a tough time this week, this month, or even this quarter, if you look at the long-term big picture, you will often see that change opens doors to new opportunities. Try to foster this perspective the moment change strikes, and you’ll find a little change won’t set you back; in fact, you may even find that you embrace it.
