Welcome back to what is SEO – SEO for Beginners Series. In the last video, we went over SEO Factor #7 Security:

We talked about the importance of website security, how to know if your site is secure, and some options to secure your website.

In this video, we are on #8 of the 10 most important ranking factors, and that is Mobile Friendliness.

SEO Factor #8: Mobile Friendliness

SEO for Beginners - Mobile Friendliness

Mobile Friendliness and SEO

In addition to being secure, your website also needs to be mobile-friendly, meaning it looks good and works properly on smartphones and other devices. Websites that aren’t mobile-friendly won’t rank as well in search results.

How to see if your site is mobile-friendly

One way to see how your website performs on mobile devices is to go to the Google Search Console and look for your “Mobile Usability” report. There you can see if there are any mobile issues with your website.

Or you can go to google and type in “Mobile Friendly website,” and a box will pop up that is from google, and you can run the test right there.

Another way is to test your site on different devices. This will give you some real-world data, and you can see your site through the eyes of visitors. Then you can either fix the issues or note them for your web person to adjust.

Given that so many online searches happen on mobile devices, it’s important for your website to be optimized for them.

In the next video in the series, we’ll dive into SEO Factor #9: Use Structured Data

Mobile Friendly FAQs

Q: What is a mobile friendly website?

A: A mobile friendly website is a site that has been designed to be easy to use and navigate on a smaller screen. This usually means that the layout is simplified, the text is easy to read, and the buttons and links are easy to tap.

Q: .Why is it important to have a mobile friendly website?

A: These days, more people are using their smartphones and tablets to browse the web than ever before. In fact, studies show that over 60% of internet users now access the web exclusively through mobile devices. This means that if your website isn’t optimized for mobile, you could be missing out on a huge chunk of your potential audience.

Q: How can I tell if my website is mobile friendly?

A: There are a few different ways to test if your site is mobile friendly. Google has a free tool called the Mobile-Friendly Test that will analyze a URL and tell you if it passes or fails their criteria for being mobile friendly. Another way to check is to simply pull up your website on your own mobile device and see how it looks and feels. If it’s difficult to read or navigate, then it’s probably not optimizied for mobile.

Q: What happens if my website isn’t mobile friendly?

A: If your website isn’t mobile friendly, it could be penalized by search engines like Google. This means that your site may not show up in mobile search results, and you could potentially lose out on a lot of traffic and potential customers.

Q: How can I make my website mobile friendly?

A: There are a few different ways to make your website mobile friendly. One is to use a responsive design, which means that your site will automatically adjust to fit whatever screen size it’s being viewed on. Another option is to create a separate mobile version of your website that is specifically designed for smaller screens. Whichever route you choose, just make sure that your site is easy to read and navigate on a mobile device.

Q: I’m not a web developer. Can I still make my website mobile friendly?

A: Yes! There are plenty of ways to make your website mobile friendly without needing any coding or technical knowledge. If you’re using a content management system like WordPress, there are tons of mobile-friendly themes and plugins available that can be installed with just a few clicks. Or, if you want to go the DIY route, there are plenty of resources and tutorials available online that can walk you through the process step-by-step.

Q: Will making my website mobile friendly cost me anything?

A: It depends. If you’re using a content management system like WordPress, there are many free mobile-friendly themes and plugins available. Or, if you want to create a separate mobile version of your site, you may need to invest in a responsive design template. However, overall, the cost of making your website mobile friendly is relatively low compared to the potential benefits.

Q: How long will it take to make my website mobile friendly?

A: Again, it depends. If you’re using a content management system like WordPress, you can install a mobile-friendly theme or plugin in just a few minutes. Or, if you’re creating a separate mobile version of your site, it may take a bit longer to design and build. However, either way, the process is relatively quick and easy.

Q: I’m still not sure if I should make my website MOBILE-FRIENDLY. What should I do?

A: If you’re still on the fence about whether or not to make your website mobile-friendly, consider the following: over 60% of internet users now access the web exclusively through mobile devices, and Google has stated that they are starting to penalize non-mobile-friendly sites in their search results. So if you want to ensure that your site is visible and accessible to the largest audience possible, making it mobile-friendly is a must.
