Your website is one of the most powerful assets to get new clients.

But how do you get potential new clients to your website and then convert them from visitors to paying customers?

I’m Torie Mathis, long-time entrepreneur, marketing agency CEO, and lover of a website fixer-upper, and today we are talking about how to get more clients directly from your website.

You may be active on social media or online forums, but it’s your website that will have the biggest impact on getting new clients.

If your website is failing to deliver, no worries, we can fix that baby up and have it filling your pipeline full of new leads and customers in no time.

So let’s get started.

Here are 8 Website Tweaks To Get  More Customers

get more customers with keyword optimization

1 Keyword Optimization

All the written content on your website should be search engine optimized with relevant keywords in order to bring traffic to it.

This will help get search engines like Google to deliver your website in search results.

You can use a free keyword tool, like ahrefs keyword generator or Neil Patel’s Ubersuggest, to find what keywords to use on your site and focus mostly on long-tail keywords. These are longer keyword phrases and sentences that have less competition and are more specific.

For example, the keyword “tacos” is very broad – lots of monthly searches and lots of competition.

However, the longer, more specific keyword “best tacos in Johns Creek” will help you get more traffic since the searchers are looking for something more specific. (And usually closer to actually making a purchase). That’s known as a long-tail keyword.

If someone just searches “tacos,” you don’t know if they’re looking to make tacos, buy ingredients for tacos, go out for tacos in their town? Maybe they are some weirdo that doesn’t even know what a taco is? Bleh.

But the dude that searches “best tacos in Johns Creek” this guy for sure knows what tacos are, and he is primed and ready to buy. THIS is the search traffic you want to get to your site.

So the longer, more specific the search term, the more chance you have to rank higher and the closer the searcher will likely be to making a purchase.

What long-tail search terms do you want to rank for?

Start to jot down some ideas, then jump on one of the free keyword tools and see how the search volume and competition is for them. How can you start to make content on your site specifically for the new great keywords you just found?

2 Add a Blog

Adding a blog to your site and posting helpful, informational content regularly is a great way to attract more traffic to your website. Blog articles will help with search engines by providing fresh content and more keywords out there for your potential customers to find you.

Blog articles will also help to showcase your expertise in your industry. You can write on the topics that are of interest to your potential clients, what they are searching for online, and show them what you know.

If you don’t have a blog, add one to your site and start creating posts that will attract your target audience. If you do have a blog, are you using it to its potential?

Are you being found and getting traffic through your informative, educational articles?

By matching up your blog articles with what your audience is searching for online, you’re sure to get more traffic and get more customers.

get more customers with social proof

3 Include Social Proof

Social proof is how you show how you’ve helped others solve their problems. It’s very powerful in demonstrating your expertise and your customer satisfaction in the market.

Testimonials from customers are easy to use on your website for social proof. You can reach out to people you’ve worked with and ask if they’d give you some feedback you can use for a testimonial in your marketing.

But think beyond just testimonials. Other forms of social proof that you can use on your website are reviews, case studies, awards, certifications, and even referrals are a form of social proof.

Are you using social proof to your advantage?

And this doesn’t mean just pop up a testimonials page, though that can be nice. It is better to sprinkle in reviews and testimonials on all the pages of your site, so they reinforce your message and offers everywhere on your site.

Research from Power Reviews shows that customer testimonials placed alongside expensive products increase the conversion rate by 380%. So start implementing social proof on your site.

get more customers with video marketing

4 Use Video Content

Another great way to tell website visitors about your business is to create a short video with you talking directly to them. This will put a human face on your business. People connect with people, not to businesses, so give them the opportunity to hear directly from you.

Your video content can be short and simple, don’t worry about fancy production. Just make sure you have decent lighting and good audio. One of these little corded mics works great and plugs right into your phone.

You can get them on Amazon for less than $10. In your video, introduce yourself and your business and give the viewer your elevator pitch about what unique value you can offer them.

So what do you think?

Can you make a simple video for your website so you can connect with your audience and boost your sales?

Consider video your shortcut, superpower to connecting and building trust. It just can take a little bravery to put yourself out there, but I promise you, it will be well worth it.

5 Peek In On Other Business’ Websites

Spend some time looking around at the sites of businesses that are similar to yours. And don’t just look in your area; go and look in other cities and even other states. See how they represent themselves. Look at their website design, their content, and their site navigation.

This customer research can give you some ideas on how to improve your site and how you can set it apart from the competition.

You can discover what content is missing from your site? How can you better use social proof and calls to action?

Don’t copy, but be inspired with new ideas, improvements, and more direction for your website.

This inspiration can make your website the client magnet you’re dreaming of.

6 Offer an Amazing Lead Magnet

You can put a free informational product for download on your site, like an eBook or a guide that helps your audience solve a problem they’re facing.

This is a great, inexpensive way for your to demonstrate your expertise and start a relationship with your website visitors.

In exchange for the free PDF download, they will give you their name and email address. Then you can send them content and promotions by email.

This is a great way to grab people while they are in research mode. They may not be ready to pull the trigger on a purchase just yet, but by getting their email address, you can email them and stay top of mind while they are making their decision.

What can you offer your website visitors in exchange for their email?

Think simple.

What is one common problem you can solve for them? Or how can you help them make the best decision on how to decide what company to choose? How can you help them from making common mistakes?

7 Call the Visitor to Action

In addition to talking about the unique value and solutions you offer, give your visitors a clear call to action. You need to tell them exactly what to do next. You’ll want to experiment with different wording in your calls to action and see what performs best with your specific audience.

Want them to call you? Fill out a form and request a free consult? Download your free guide? Pick one main call to action and be specific.

Try not to get them to leave your site until they have taken action with you. How can you show them the benefits and make it a no-brainer to take the next step?

8 Pay Attention To Your Analytics

Schedule some regular time to check in on your website analytics so you can see what’s working and what isn’t. Having Google Analytics set up on your site can give you valuable information, such as your visitor count, how long they stay on your site, how they arrived there, and what keywords your site is being found for.

And the only way to really know is to look at the analytics, and I can tell you your assumptions might be dead wrong.

Now, this is something you want to act on right now if you don’t have analytics set up on your site, for there is no way to grab past data. So start collecting data right now even if you don’t feel like you have the time or bandwidth for it…you’ll thank me later.

Once you begin to look over your analytics, you can find what’s working and do more of it, and find what’s not working and tweak it, fix it, and refine it.

Get more customers with your website

This is how you can continue to hone your website strategy and constantly improve to make it more effective. And this doesn’t mean you need to do a full overhaul or make it 100% better right now.

It’s better to make small, incremental changes; think about making it just 1% better.

And then later another 1% better. You’ll see these small changes turn into big results over time without feeling overwhelmed or getting burned out trying to do too much.

Soon, you’ll have a streamlined website that easily converts your visitors into new clients.
